These two things are used for the process to make the work piece safe and secure for work. In the process of centerless grinding the work piece is made secured between two round wheels. One of these wheels is stationary and the other one is a rotary or moving wheel, which performs the work of grinding. The speed of the rotating wheel determines the rate at which the materials from the work piece are to be removed.

The process of centerless grinding is more conventional than that of the other processes and is typically being used grinding machines for a longer period of time. In this process the work piece is placed or held in between two wheels, as mentioned earlier that one is stationary and the other one is rotary.

The work piece is made to rest on a platform called work rest. The speed of the rotary wheel can be controlled that is can be increased or decreased as per the need. The other name of the rotary wheel is grinding wheel. As the grinding wheel rotates the force of grinding on the work piece is downwards. Hence, whatever materials that are to be removed from the work piece will fall downwards. The rotary wheel uses the higher linear speed to perform the grinding work. The stationary wheel is called as regulating wheel, which can also be movable. This wheel is made movable to generate a lateral pressure on the work piece so that it does not slip of the work rest platform. The surface of the stationary when is generally made very rough or sometimes of rubber-bonded abrasive that helps in trapping the work piece. The speed of two wheels needs to be relative to each other and this also determines the rate at which the materials from the work piece are to be removed.
