Many off-the-shelf data acquisition systems work well for standard applications requiring basic monitoring and analysis.  These systems are limited, however, by their Òone size fits allÓ design that can often force the user to make compromises on features on system requirements or require the user to pay for unnecessary features.  Some users may not be able to find a system that suits their needs at all.  Other users are interested in developing a system that will deliver superior performance compared to what is commercially available.  Still other users are interested in owning the intellectual property for a developed system for manufacturing purposes.  This is where a custom engineered system or component is desirable.
